The City of New Britain (here in Connecticut) just adopted its budget for the coming year. To say that New Britain is a Democratic city is an understatement: although the previous mayor was a Republican, of the 15 council members only two are Republicans.

The current (Democratic) mayor promised not to raise taxes, even though he claims to have inherited a previously-unknown structural deficit.

In any case, here’s what put this in my “What the heck?” category: the two Republicans voted against the budget, as usual; but one of them voted against the budget because he wanted to raise taxes (to help the school system).

What the heck?
