Bridgeport, Connecticut has voted to impose a curfew on teens. Will that do any good? On the one hand, a 15-year-old girl was killed while standing on her front porch after a Sweet 16 party. If she had been inside, she wouldn’t have been shot; of if the shooter had been home in bed, she wouldn’t have been shot. Well, that’s probably true. Then again, nobody knows the age of the jerk who pulled the trigger; somebody else might have gotten shot, curfew or no, if the gunman was 21.

A few weeks ago a three-year-old girl was shot in broad daylight. A curfew wouldn’t have helped her.

I don’t know. Because the parents have to get involved and keep them in. They gotta watch ’em. And will that happen? I don’t know

The woman is absolutely right. If those “kids” had effective parents, they wouldn’t be roaming around in the middle of the night anyways. Bringing a teenager home in a squad car at 3:00 in the morning isn’t going to accomplish anything if there aren’t any parents there to keep him from going back out after the cops leave. It just turns into a cat-and-mouse game.

The ACLU is already planning to fight the curfew in court, and they have a track record of winning these cases.
